Verbs and Their Tenses

Outcome: When they finish this lesson, students will be able to identify a verb in a sentence. They will also understand past, present and future tenses of verbs, particularly the verbs to be and to have. Hopefully the students will be doing the same sort of verb conjugation simultaneously in their French classes, so that the two courses will compliment one another.


Purpose: Students should be confident in their ability to recognize verbs in different forms.


Tasks:
1. The first item on the agenda would be to define the word verb: usually an action word. Ask the kids to volunteer examples. Be prepared to give some of your own in case they are feeling shy that day.
2. The concept of the infinitive. Explain to the students that when you put a verb after a pronoun, the verb changes to accommodate it. The unaltered form, in combination with the word to, is called an infinitive. For example: to jump, to sing.
3. Give the following sentences as examples: He jumps. She sings. Have them identify first which word is actually the verb. List all the personal pronouns on the board and have the kids conjugate the verbs. When this is finished, tell them that they have just conjugated the verb. (YAY! Massive cheers and wild applause.)
4. Now for a look at the most common verbs in the English language: to be and to have. Explain that certain verbs appear to be an exception to the 'action' rule. Write the following table on the board, or put it on the overhead:

5. Have the students conjugate these verbs.
6. Write two sentences on the board in present tense. Ask the students when the event (verb) is taking place: yesterday, today, or tomorrow. Then have the students give you examples of actions taking place tomorrow and yesterday.
7. Explain the concept of past, present and future tense. Explain that when in past or future tense, main verbs are combined with the appropriate forms of the helping verbs (to be and to have). Give examples.
8. Give the students exercises to practice:
          a) Twenty sentences where the students identify the verb(s). Include some examples where there are both main and helping verbs.
          b) Six verbs to conjugate.
          c) Ten sentences changing past and future tense into present tense
          d) Ten sentences changing present tense to past tense.
          e) Ten sentences changing present tense to future tense.

Title - Blooming Up: Teaching the Art of Questioning

Concept: Levels of Questioning

Standard
: Students will analyze grade-level text.

Goal: Students will improve reading comprehension by learning how to raise higher level questions.

Objective: After raising questions about pieces of fruit, students will write and answer several questions about core literature. The questions will be at different levels of Bloom's taxonomy.

Materials needed: an apple and an orange, core literature, a copy of Bloom's taxonomy

Anticipatory set: Present the apple and the orange and ask the class, "Which piece of fruit do you like better? Why?"

Procedure: First, the teacher explains to the class that s/he is going to teach them how to ask questions.
Beginning with the fruit, the teacher explains that low-level questions deal with recall and specific detail, while higher level questions address analysis, application, synthesis and evaluation. Though students may not understand these terms, the teacher can model and then invite students to raise their own questions about the fruit.

Below are examples: 1) Recall/specific detail: What color is the apple? What shape is the orange? Which one is bigger? 2) Comprehension: Which piece of fruit makes your fingers feel sticky? Which piece of fruit is packed with vitamin C? 3) Analysis: What are three differences/similarities between the apple and the orange? 4) Application: Can you think of a way to peel an orange without getting your fingers sticky?
What would you do if you were starving and found a worm in your apple? 5) Synthesis: If you were going to create a new piece of fruit that was a combination of the apple and the orange, what would the fruit look and taste like? 6) Evaluation: Which fruit is better for you and why?

After students create fruit questions, introduce a short poem or story and ask them to write questions at each level of Bloom's taxonomy. On the board, list the questions under the different question headings (recall, comprehension, analysis, application, synthesis, evaluation) and ask them to answer at least two questions under each heading.

Assessment: Using a rubric, students can self-assess their work by switching papers with a partner and checking to see the questions span the taxonomy ladder and are adequately answered based on information in the text.

Independent practice: Ask students to record the questions raised at home, on a t.v. program, or in other classes and write an analysis of the types of questions that are most frequently asked. Are they lower or higher level questions?

با عرض سلام و خسته نباشيد.

 

با توجه به اينكه جلسه آينده گروه زبان ناحيه در اسفندماه برگزار مي گردد لذا مطالبي را به دليل فاصله زماني زياد به اطلاع همكاران مي رسانيم كه برخي از مطالب در وبلاگ گروه نيز آمده است كه همكاران علاقمند مي توانند ملاحظه نمايند.

1- برگزاري مسابقه طرح درس نويسي از طرف دبيرخانه راهبري زبان انگليسي كه چگونگي آن به پيوست آمده است.

2 برگزاري مسابقه مقاله نويسي از طرف دبيرخانه راهبري زبان انگليسي كه دستورالعمل آن به پيوست آمده است. و همكاران مي توانند در هر دو مورد طرح درس ها و يا مقالات خود را از طريق مدير يا خود دبير به گروه ناحيه ارسال نمايند تا از اين طريق به استان ارسال شود.

3 برگزاري فراخوان مقاله نويسي با عنوان " نكات زيبا و خلاق خود را در تدريس بنويسيد." اين فراخوان از طرف گروه ناحيه مي باشد و از همكاران درخواست مي گردد نكات زيبا و يا روش هاي خلاق و نوين خود را در بهتر يادگيري و لذت بخش بودن درس زبان را حداكثر تا تاريخ 20/1/88 به گروه ناحيه ارسال نمايند. لازم به ذكر است كه مقالات مي توانند به زبان فارسي باشند.

4- برگزاري مسابقه براي همكاران بدين صورت كه سوالاتي از تاريخ 15/10/87 در وبلاگ گروه در اختيار شما قرار مي گيرد . همكاران محترم بايستي پس از پاسخگويي به آنها حداكثر تا تاريخ 30/11/87 شخصا و يا يوسيله ايميل پاسخ هاي خود را به گروه ناحيه ارسال نمايند.

** لازم به ذكر است كه در همه موارد ذكر شده به نفرات برتر جوايزي اهدا خواهد شد و در جلسات گروه از ايشان تقدير و تشكر به عمل خواهد آمد.

6 با توجه به اينكه يكي از برنامه هاي گروه در مجمع بعدي ناحيه اجراي Reading club مي باشد لذا متني كه قرار است در اين كارگاه مورد بحث واقع شود با عنوان The Psychology of Money  به پيوست  ارسال مي گردد تا همكاران با آمادگي در اين جلسه حضور يابند.

7 همكاران ارجمند مي توانند هرگونه مقاله ، مطلب علمي ، طرح درس ، نمونه سوال و يا CD آموزشي را به گروه ارسال تا با نام خود ايشان در اختيار ساير همكاران و يا در وبلاگ گروه قرار بگيرد.

شيوه اجرا :

-اين مسابقه درسه مرحله منطقه اي ، استاني وكشوري  بصورت غير حضوري اجرا مي گردد

- شركت كنندگان مي توانند يكي از بخشهاي لغت وخواندن ، دستورزبان ، نقش هاي زباني وتلفظ كتب زبان انگليسي متوسطه يا پيش دانشگاهي را انتخاب كرده وطرح درس خود را تهيه نمايند.

-  طرح درس تايپ گردد وبا نرم افزار        تهيه شود

- طرح درس برتر همرا ه با فايل تايپ شده بصورت لوح فشرده ونسخه مكتوب از طرح گروه زبان نواحي ومناطق حداكثر تا اواخر ديماه به گروه زبان استان ارسال گردد

- به لوح هاي فشرده ارسالي بعداز تاريخ مقرر ترتيب اثر داده نخواهدشد

- طبق بخشنامه در مرحله استاني ، يك طرح درس برتر به دبيرخانه راهبردي زبان انگليسي جهت شركت در مرحله كشوري ارسال ميگردد.

 توجه : دبيران محترم شركت كننده مي بايست مشخصات كامل خود را ( نام – نام خانوادگي – منطقه – ناحيه محل خدمت – مدرك ورشته تحصيلي ورشته تدريس) برروي لوح فشرده ونسخه مكتوب  درج نمايند وتحويل گروه زبان منطقه يا ناحيه خود  دهند وگروه زبان مربوطه بهترين طرح درس را انتخاب نموده وبه گروه زبان استان ارسال مي نمايد.

- چكيده حداكثر تا 150 كلمه ومقاله حداكثر در 15 صفحه تايپ وتدوين گردد فهرست منابع به صورت       IPA  درج گردد

Eid - E - Ghorban

EID-E-GHORBAN

 

Eid-Al-Adha (Eid-Al-Azha or Eid-e- Ghorban) is the festival of    sacrifice. The word "Azha" literally means sheep, goats or cattle offered in sacrifice. All Moslems celebrate this festival by sacrificing cattle

This is the second festival introduced by the prophet Mohammed and is connected with the historical incident when Saint Abrahim  decided to sacrifice his son Ismail (Ishmael) to Allah.  God put a ram in place of Ismail

About two thousand seven hundred and ninety three years before the Migration (Hijrat) of Prophet Mohammed, Saint Abrahim, his wife and his infant son Ismail left Syria to Mecca. Mecca was a desert with no water and vegetation. Saint Abrahim prays to God, departs from his family but ensure them of God's protection. Janab-e-Hagar, Saint Abrahim's wife in compliance's with God's will settled on the land until all the stored water was used up. She climbed two hills of Safa and Marva seven times without a stop in hope of finding water for her thirsty infant. However, it was in vain

When she returns to her child without water, she found her infant son under a fountain of water rushing under his feet. On viewing the miracle of God, she thanked God and called this water Zamzam. Since then, this fountain is known as Zamzam

The tribe of Jurhum was passing by in search of water when they found the fountain, Abrahim's wife and his son. With the permission of Janab-Hagar, they stayed at the place of "Arafat". The tribe settled there with approval of Saint Abrahim when he returned to visit his wife and son

The tribe offered sheep to Saint Abrahim' son, Ismail as a present. As Ismail grew older, he owned a large number of sheep. He lived with his mother comfortably and was visited by his father occasionally

One day Saint Abrahim saw in his dream slaughtering his son so he took his dream as a command of his Lord. He spoke with his son and asked for his opinion. Saint Ismail responded "if God pleases, you will find me among the patient ones


Kaaba

Saint Abrahim and Ismail prepared for the sacrifice. When Saint Abrahim moved the knife against Ismail's neck, Angel Gabriel replaced Ismail with a sheep. God praised Saint Abrahim for passing the test. When Saint Abrahim found his son safe, he thanked God and took his son to Kaaba

Saint Abrahim's commitment and devotion to God earned such a  great pleasure of God that all Muslims required to visit Kaaba a monument to Allah at least once in their lifetime if they can afford it

How to Learn English !

Here are some tips which may help you to master the English Language!

Speak without Fear

The biggest problem most people face in learning a new language is their own fear.  They worry that they won’t say things correctly or that they will look stupid so they don’t talk at all.  Don’t do this.  The fastest way to learn anything is to do it – again and again until you get it right.  Like anything, learning English requires practice.  Don’t let a little fear stop you from getting what you want. 

Use all of your Resources

Even if you study English at a language school it doesn’t mean you can’t learn outside of class.  Using as many different sources, methods and tools as possible, will allow you to learn faster.  There are many different ways you can improve your English, so don’t limit yourself to only one or two.  The internet is a fantastic resource for virtually anything, but for the language learner it's perfect. 

Surround Yourself with English

The absolute best way to learn English is to surround yourself with it.  Take notes in English, put English books around your room, listen to English language radio broadcasts, watch English news, movies and television.  Speak English with your friends whenever you can. The more English material that you have around you, the faster you will learn and the more likely it is that you will begin “thinking in English.” .

Listen to Native Speakers as Much as Possible

There are some good English teachers that have had to learn English as a second language before they could teach it.  However, there are several  reasons why many of the best schools prefer to hire native English speakers. One of the reasons is that native speakers have a natural flow to their speech that students of English should try to imitate.  The closer ESL / EFL students can get to this rhythm or flow, the more convincing and comfortable they will become. 

Watch English Films and Television

This is not only a fun way to learn but it is also very effective.  By watching English films (especially those with English subtitles) you can expand your vocabulary and hear the flow of speech from the actors.  If you listen to the news you can also hear different accents. 

Listen to English Music

Music can be a very effective method of learning English.  In fact, it is often used as a way of improving comprehension.  The best way to learn though, is to get the lyrics (words) to the songs you are listening to and try to read them as the artist sings.  There are several good internet sites where one can find the words for most songs. This way you can practice your listening and reading at the same time.  And if you like to sing, fine.

Study As Often As Possible!

Only by studying things like grammar and vocabulary and doing exercises, can you really improve your knowledge of any language. 

Do Exercises and Take Tests

Many people think that exercises and tests aren't much fun.  However, by completing exercises and taking tests you can really improve your English. One of the best reasons for doing lots of exercises and tests is that they give you a benchmark to compare your future results with.  Often, it is by comparing your score on a test you took yesterday with one you took a month or six months ago that you realize just how much you have learned.  If you never test yourself, you will never know how much you are progressing. Start now by doing some of the many exercises and tests on this site, and return in a few days to see what you've learned. Keep doing this and you really will make some progress with English.

Record Yourself

Nobody likes to hear their own voice on tape but like tests, it is good to compare your tapes from time to time.  You may be so impressed with the progress you are making that you may not mind the sound of your voice as much.

Listen to English

By this, we mean, speak on the phone or listen to radio broadcasts, audiobooks or CDs in English. This is different than watching the television or films because you can’t see the person that is speaking to you.  Many learners of English say that speaking on the phone is one of the most difficult things that they do and the only way to improve is to practice.
